Illegally dumped furniture

Furniture poverty is a problem that is often overlooked, but it can have a profound impact on people's lives. Without furniture, a home feels empty and unfinished. For people who are transitioning from homelessness or displacement, furniture poverty can be even more debilitating. It can make it difficult to find employment or complete schoolwork. It can also exacerbate mental health problems and increase stress levels.

Furniture Sharehouse Society (FSS) would help to alleviate some of these hardships by providing all the essential furniture and housewares a family needs to feel at home for a modest service fee. In addition to its practical benefits, FSS would also help to foster a sense of community and belonging. Helping transform empty housing into homes where family members want to spend their time, brings families together and helps them become closer.  By creating a space where people can share resources, we can start to build a more circular economy in which everyone has what they need to thrive.

Who We Are

The Furniture Sharehouse Society is a furniture removal service which diverts used furniture from the landfill, giving items to people transitioning from homelessness into housing. By collecting donations of returned housewares from commercial partners and giving them to needy families, the Furniture Sharehouse Society helps build a circular economy to end furniture poverty and fight climate change.

This kind of charity is also known as a "Furniture Bank" and it's been successful in hundreds of communities across North America, yet has not been implemented on Vancouver Island.  We're committed to making a difference in our community and our environment - come join us!

With your help, we can provide furniture and essential household items to those who need them most, and keep unwanted furniture out of our landfills. Thank you for supporting the Furniture Sharehouse Society!
